Marie Claire just published a compelling piece by Fiorella Valdesolo called "CBD Is About to Get Big (Again)" and we relate so much that it feels like she interviewed us for it.
Just a few years ago, the phytocannabinoid CBD was everywhere. It was in everything from skincare to snacks to pillow cases — and then it vanished just as quickly as it arrived. But as Valdesolo points out, CBD didn't disappear because it wasn't effective — it was because too many brands jumped on the trend without doing it right. They used low-quality or even no CBD, made big promises they couldn’t back up, and left customers disappointed.
Now CBD is experiencing a comeback, because now there's proof. Valdesolo's article points to multiple recent studies that conclude that CBD’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties are the real deal. CBD helps balance oil production, soothe irritation, and even protect against UV damage. As Marie Claire highlights, there's "a growing body of research" demonstrating CBD's benefits, including:
- A compelling new study published by JAAD in November 2024, the results of which one of its authors, Adam Friedman, M.D., professor and chair of dermatology at George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences, sums up as “[Topical CBD] can regulate skin turnover, pigment and oil production, wound healing, hair growth, literally everything the skin does.”
-
A study reported in the Redox Biology journal shows CBD’s potential for neutralizing free radicals caused by UV exposure.
- Research published in the journal Cells in its special issue, "Molecular and Cell Basis of Skin Diseases and Aging," demonstrates CBD's ability to decrease cell senescence (cell aging) and improve wound healing.
- In a study titled "Antioxidative and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Cannabidiol," researchers show that CBD may possess the ability to repair skin cells through the "modulation of oxidative stress."
Valdesolo concludes that these studies suggest that CBD's past lackluster results were due to a solvable problem:
"The ingredient as a whole may have promise, but the tempestuous market that popped up to fill an insatiable need (and opportunity) wasn't always properly sourcing CBD, if they were actually using it all."
At Green Bee Botanicals, we’ve always used the highest quality, full-spectrum phytocannabinoids — sourced from organic, regenerative farm Sonoma Hills Farm — because we know that's what works. And because there have been dishonest players in the CBD market giving it a bad name, we go above and beyond to pay for and publicly share certificates of analysis (COAs) for each batch of our products to verify their safety, purity, and label accuracy.
We’re thrilled to see the research catching up to what we (and our customers) have experienced firsthand: high-quality CBD is an incredible workhorse for skin repair. Whether you’re dealing with dryness, sensitivity, premature lines, or the occasional breakout, phytocannabinoids can help bring your skin back to balance.
That's why, as Valdesolo notes, "The buzz is once again, albeit slowly and more thoughtfully, building again. This time, in dermatologist's offices, esthetician appointments, and spas, where CBD's calming and anti-inflammatory properties are being put to full use."
It's especially validating to hear that Credo Beauty, whose rigorous Credo Clean Standard we exceed, believes the potential for CBD skincare is there despite the challenges Valdesolo outlines in her Marie Claire piece. As Credo's Vice President of Brands Jessica Trieber puts it, "CBD's not like retinol in that it's just immediately understood."
But that's changing, thankfully. We highly recommend checking out Valdesolo’s article — it’s a thoughtful, accurate take on the ups and downs the CBD market has faced, and why it now deserves its place in skincare. And if you’re ready to feel the difference, explore our newly relaunched Spa Collection and experience phytocannabinoid-based skin healing for yourself.
