Chinese New Year 2026 begins on February 17, ushering in the Year of the Fire Horse.
In Chinese astrology, each of 12 zodiac animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig) is paired with one of the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) on rotation in a 60-year cycle. This is why the Fire Horse comes around only once every 60 years.
Your animal-element pairing is believed to influence personality, fortune, and compatibility, similar to Western astrology but based on birth year rather than month.
The Horse is associated with movement, adventure, passion, and independence. The Fire element is traditionally linked with vitality, visibility, and transformation. This combination is considered especially dynamic.
While we don’t treat astrology as hard science, we do love that the Chinese zodiac is based on Shu Xiang (鼠相) — animal symbolism — because animals are cute, poetic, and powerful. And we respect that the 12-year animal cycle, or Shengxiao (生肖), meaning "born resembling," has helped people reflect on time, change, and intention for thousands of years.
