Chinese New Year 2026 begins on February 17, ushering in the Year of the Fire Horse.
In Chinese astrology, each of 12 zodiac animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig) is paired with one of the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) on rotation in a 60-year cycle. This is why the Fire Horse comes around only once every 60 years.
Your animal-element pairing is believed to influence personality, fortune, and compatibility, similar to Western astrology but based on birth year rather than month.
The Horse is associated with movement, adventure, passion, and independence. The Fire element is traditionally linked with vitality, visibility, and transformation. This combination is considered especially dynamic.
While we don’t treat astrology as hard science, we do love that the Chinese zodiac is based on Shu Xiang (鼠相) — animal symbolism — because animals are cute, poetic, and powerful. And we respect that the 12-year animal cycle, or Shengxiao (生肖), meaning "born resembling," has helped people reflect on time, change, and intention for thousands of years. Symbols can be useful, not because they predict outcomes, but because they can invite introspection, courage, and forward motion.
So instead of predictions or advice, we’re offering seven ideas inspired by Fire Horse energy, each paired with questions for you to contemplate as the Chinese New Year approaches.

1. Momentum over perfection
In Chinese astrology, the Horse is always in motion. It’s not waiting for flawless conditions. It’s responding to instinct, timing, and opportunity as they appear.
Fire Horse years tend to favor action over endless preparation. Not reckless action, but movement that breaks inertia.
Many of us spend more time refining than finishing (as I do with many of our blogs!). We tell ourselves we’ll move once things are clearer, calmer, or more certain — especially the perfectionists among us.
Fire Horse energy gently challenges that instinct.
QUESTION: What’s one thing you’ve been tinkering with for a long time that you could move forward with this year without needing every detail worked out first?

2. Independence guided by intuition, not isolation
The Horse is known for independence, but it’s also a deeply social animal. In traditional interpretations, the horse’s strength comes from knowing when to run solo and when to move with others. It’s about trusting your own instincts while staying connected to others.
This kind of intuition is something Green Bee founder Bridget practices regularly. I can’t count the number of times I’ve asked her how she knows something and her reply was, “I feel it in my gut.” She’s trained herself to let her intuition be her guide through years of experience, both from trusting it and second-guessing it.
True independence comes from trusting your own inner compass and knowing when to lean on people who help you hear it more clearly.
QUESTION: If you already trust your gut: where has it been nudging you lately? If you’re still learning to trust your gut: what’s one small decision you could use to practice listening to yourself? BONUS: Who in your life helps you trust your gut?
3. This year favors visible action
Fire Horse years are often associated with visibility: being seen, stepping forward, allowing your presence to register.
That doesn’t mean being loud. Or curated. Or “on” all the time.
Visibility can be quiet and steady. It can look like sharing your perspective without softening it. Saying yes when you’d usually stay back. Letting your work, values, or ideas be heard and seen without either minimizing them or overprojecting them.
This kind of visibility doesn’t ask you to become someone else. It asks you to stop shrinking.
It invites you to take something you’ve been refining in private and allow it to exist out in the world, because it’s ready.
QUESTION: Where in your life could you show up a little more openly, without performing or trying to impress anyone, while not diminishing yourself?
4. Energy is renewable when it’s aligned
When people talk about energetic years, it’s easy to assume that means pushing harder. But one of the quieter teachings of the Fire Horse is discernment: learning which efforts fuel you and which drain you.
Fire Horse energy points toward alignment: when your actions reflect your values, energy tends to regenerate instead of deplete.
At Green Bee, this is something Bridget and I come back to often. When our work feels connected to purpose — creating healing plant-based skincare, supporting biodiversity, working with regenerative farms, choosing materials thoughtfully — the effort feels meaningful rather than extractive.
This applies far beyond work. Your energy flows more freely when it follows what matters most to you.
QUESTION: Think about the things that leave you energized rather than worn down. What do they have in common? How might you make more room for those in 2026?

5. Completion as a form of renewal
In the past couple of weeks, we’ve heard different people describe 2026 using the same word: reset.
While the Horse is often linked with beginnings, Fire Horse years are also considered favorable for finishing — bringing something to completion so energy can circulate again.
Resets don’t have to be dramatic. They can be subtle. Maybe it’s an old expectation. A story you keep telling yourself. A way of doing things that once made sense but doesn’t anymore.
In many traditions, completion isn’t about checking a box. It’s about release. About freeing up attention, emotion, or identity that’s been tied to something unfinished.
QUESTION: Is there something you’re ready to complete, close, or let go of, not because you should, but because you’re ready to free up that energy? Put another way, what would you like to stop carrying into your next chapter?

6. When consistency matters more than intensity
Fire Horse energy is exciting, but it can also tempt people to sprint…then stall. Go all in…then burn out.
The quieter wisdom of this year is about sustained movement. Showing up again and again. Letting effort compound.
Traditional interpretations of the Fire Horse often emphasize rhythm: sustained movement rather than dramatic bursts. Progress that compounds quietly.
This is especially relevant in a culture that celebrates intensity but rarely sustainability.
QUESTION: What’s one small action you could commit to repeating this year that would genuinely change things over time?
7. Freedom…with direction
The Horse is one of the strongest symbols of freedom in Chinese astrology, traditionally associated with movement, action, and speed. Fire amplifies that energy.
But freedom here isn’t chaos; it’s purposeful movement. It’s about choosing what deserves your energy, and letting the rest fall away. Because momentum without direction can leave you exhausted and oddly dissatisfied.
This final idea ties everything together: momentum, intuition, visibility, completion, rhythm.
QUESTION: As you look ahead to this Fire Horse year, what kind of freedom are you seeking, and what’s actually worth moving toward?
Let this year invite action and growth — with directed energy, not pressure
The most important takeaway for us about the Year of the Fire Horse is this: movement is powerful when it’s rooted in meaning.
As Bridget and I look ahead to 2026, we feel energized — about our work, about growing thoughtfully, about continuing to make products that genuinely help people feel good in their skin. But more than anything, we’re focused on moving with intention.
As you move into 2026, with whatever version of “reset” or momentum that means for you, we invite you to take our seven reflections as friendly companions. And we hope this Year of the Fire Horse offers you the chance to recognize the inner work you’ve done — the long thinking, the learning, the introspection — and to share it with the world.
