Never ordered from a dispensary? Here’s how it works. Hint: it’s super easy!
In states where cannabis is legal, you can get it delivered straight to your home from your favorite dispensary. If you’ve never had cannabis products delivered before, the process is simple; you just need to know about a few nuances to make the process easier before you dive in.
FIRST: Currently, cannabis products can’t be shipped in the United States, not even within or between states where cannabis is legal, and not even if the products don’t get you high (like our skincare). That’s because cannabis is still illegal on a federal level. So the U.S. Postal Service — a federal entity — cannot deliver cannabis products via mail. These regulations also deter other entities (UPS, FedEx, etc.) from shipping them.
SECOND: Whether you order in-store or online from a dispensary, you’ll need to input your ID info to prove you’re at least 21, just like getting carded when you buy alcohol. Again, this is a blanket law that affects all cannabis products, whether they’re psychoactive or not.
THIRD: Because federal rules deter banks from providing services to cannabis companies (and those banks that do, charge exorbitant fees), some dispensaries operate on a cash-only basis. Some dispensaries allow you to pay online with a card, however. Since this varies widely, check to see if you’ll need to pay with cash. |
