As for Nenad, he is a monster athlete, representing the Yugoslavia (now Croatia) National Rowing Team in his younger days, and obsessed with soccer, basketball, and squash for decades. Add in genetic 'knock knees' plus years as a Certified Nursing Assistant helping stroke and Parkinson's patients. Result: barely a shred of soft tissue left, leaving both knees "bone-on-bone." ⁠

Nenad’s advice to people with painful knees: ⁠
⁠
“First figure out what’s causing your knees to hurt. Has the cartilage, meniscus and other soft tissues necessary for proper knee function disintegrated? If so, and your doctor advises it, do the surgery - but do it sooner than later - don’t wait till you can’t walk. Do it when you’re still strong and able to recover faster from the surgery. If instead your issue is poor form or poor muscle tone around the knees, do the work to strengthen everything around your knees. Do squats and clamshells daily. Build up your gluteus medius muscles, which support the knees, with one-legged squats and clamshells with a therapy band. Do the ”monster walk” with the therapy band (look it up on YouTube). Cycling is great for building up the hamstrings. Do hip abductions while lying on your side or side-planking. The list is kind of endless but you get the point: build up those muscles!"
