Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) — also known as the immortal mushroom — is an underrated skin powerhouse. Its peptides, vitamins, minerals, terpenoids, phenolics, polysaccharides, and proteins make it rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds that nourish and protect skin. While revered in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, there’s plenty of modern in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies to explain the 5 main skin benefits of resihi: 1. Today we're sharing about a little-known French botanist, Jeanne Baret (1740–1807), not only because our founder, Bridget May, is a botanist, but because we're cuckoo for plants AND for adventurous women. ⁠ ⁠ Determined to study botany but barred from joining an 18th-century scientific expedition due to her gender, Jeanne Baret disguised herself as a man and accompanied her partner, Philibert Commerçon, on a 3-year voyage to South America. She endured harsh conditions at sea and collected countless plant specimens, many of which were new to science. Baret is recognized as the first woman to have completed a voyage of circumnavigation of the globe. Though her role was initially unrecognized, her contributions are now celebrated. ⁠ ⁠ Fun facts:⁠ ⁠ ✨️ The plant species Solanum baretiae honors Baret⁠ ⁠ ✨️ The New York Botanical Garden has a plant specimen in its herbarium that is attributed to Commerçon but is believed to be collected by Baret on the same voyage⁠ ⁠ ✨️ In 2018, the International Astronomical Union named a mountain range on Pluto for Jeanne Baret⁠ ⁠ Had you heard of Jeanne Baret before?
