Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) — also known as the immortal mushroom — is an underrated skin powerhouse. Its peptides, vitamins, minerals, terpenoids, phenolics, polysaccharides, and proteins make it rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds that nourish and protect skin. Today we're sharing about a little-known French botanist, Jeanne Baret (1740–1807), not only because our founder, Bridget May, is a botanist, but because we're cuckoo for plants AND for adventurous women. ⁠ ⁠ Determined to study botany but barred from joining an 18th-century scientific expedition due to her gender, Jeanne Baret disguised herself as a man and accompanied her partner, Philibert Commerçon, on a 3-year voyage to South America. She endured harsh conditions at sea and collected countless plant specimens, many of which were new to science. Baret is recognized as the first woman to have completed a voyage of circumnavigation of the globe.
